Bullying is a form of violence or bullying that manifests itself through the systematic psychological, verbal or physical attack or humiliation of one person (or group of persons) over another. This can happen in a variety of social contexts, but most often occurs among children and adolescents in schools and other places where there is an inequality of power or authority.
Bullying can take many forms, including:
Verbal bullying: Offensive comments, threats, gossip, nicknames.
Psychological (emotional) bullying: Isolation, ignoring, psychological pressure, transmission of rumours.
Physical bullying: Hitting, corporal punishment, pushing, stealing or damaging personal belongings.
Social bullying: Attempts to exclude from a group, spread rumors or give a bad reputation.
Bullying can have serious consequences for victims, such as poor mental health, stress, depression, learning difficulties and even suicidal thoughts or behaviour. Therefore, it is important to identify and prevent bullying in time, as well as to provide support to victims and intervene in bullying situations.
The problem of bullying in schools in Ukraine, as in many other countries, is serious and needs attention. Bullying is described as systematic psychological, verbal or physical violence or bullying that one person (or group of people) perpetrates on another, usually in situations of power or authority inequality.
The Ukrainian education system implements various measures to combat bullying. These measures include implementing bullying prevention programs, training students and teaching staff to identify and avoid such situations, and taking measures to support victims of bullying.State bodies and public organizations actively cooperate in this area, in particular by developing and implementing programs aimed at raising awareness about bullying among students, teachers and parents. Also important is the role of the media and public organizations in highlighting the problem and helping to create a tolerant and safe environment for children and youth.
The change in attitude towards discussing bullying can be related to several factors:
Increased awareness: In recent decades, society has become more aware of mental and emotional health issues, including the issue of bullying. People are increasingly aware that bullying is a serious problem and think it is important to talk about it.
Community support: Increasing awareness of bullying creates platforms and forums where victims can share their experiences, get support and advice, and where people can discuss coping strategies.
Pedagogical and psychological support: Schools and other educational institutions are increasingly focusing on preventing bullying and providing psychological support for students. This may include training for students and teaching staff, the creation of psychological services and programs for the development of emotional literacy.
Culture change: Society is becoming more open and tolerant to discussing issues related to health and well-being. This includes the fight against bullying as a manifestation of negative social dynamics.
Information campaign and public education: Developing and conducting information campaigns, including through mass media, social media and other communication channels, helps to raise awareness about bullying and helps to change the public's attitude towards this problem.
Together, these factors contribute to people feeling more responsible for preventing bullying and creating safe environments for all participants in the educational process.
The best place to find information, check public records about bullying prosecutions, is local legal sources and court systems.
