The government has made it easier to obtain the status of a person with a disability as a result of the war and a family member of the deceased Defender and Defender
The initiative of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs regarding a simplified procedure for submitting and establishing statuses for persons with disabilities as a result of the war and family members of fallen servicemen and women was approved.
After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into the territory of Ukraine, this process was complicated, in some cases the acquisition of the status took up to 8 months or more. As a result, persons with disabilities and the families of the victims had limited access to benefits and services guaranteed by the state.
Two ways to obtain the status of a person with a disability due to war
From now on, the status can be obtained within 30 days in two ways:
• In paper form - through TsNAP, regardless of the registered place of residence.
• In electronic form - through the e-cabinet of the Diya portal or the unified state register of war veterans (currently an electronic product is under development).
In addition to the application indicating the information necessary for granting the status, in fact nothing else is required. The collection of missing documents is not the responsibility of the veteran or the families of the deceased, but of the competent authorities. They are given the right to demand a complete package of documents from authorized bodies or officials.

The electronic format for submitting an application for establishing statuses is still being finalized by the Ministry of Veterans together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation. The technical possibility of receiving statuses "in one click" will appear in the near future. At the first stage, the e-application will be available for servicemen of the security and defense sector (the Armed Forces, National Guard, DPSU, National Police, SBU, SZR) who received a disability as a result of hostilities, as well as families of the fallen Defenders of these categories.
The procedure for applying through the Central Administrative Court is already valid for all categories, including for volunteer defenders from among civilians, representatives of volunteer organizations and other civilians who stood up for the defense of the state and became disabled as a result of the war.
"The Ministry of Veterans collected all the issues related to obtaining statuses and the Government has now taken the first step towards simplifying the procedure. We began to build an ecosystem of returning from military to civilian life, and one of its elements is the path of the wounded: what to do next, where to go, for how long and with what. Return begins with a status that entitles veterans and families of the deceased to receive state guarantees, benefits and services, and obtaining the status depends on fast, high-quality and comfortable procedures. It is not a veteran or a member of the family of fallen Heroes who has to go and prove that he is a disabled person, a person with a disability, or that there are dead servicemen in this family, but the state, through integrated systems, is obliged to confirm this. And this should be the case in all areas of veteran policy: clear, simple, understandable algorithms of action for everyone. We are working on this, in the future there will be more simplifications and opportunities, first of all, through the digitalization of processes," said the Acting Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Porhun.
