Registration of residence permit in EU countries. Slovenia, located in the heart of Europe, is becoming an increasingly attractive country for Ukrainians to relocate and live. Thanks to its membership in the European Union, developed economy and high standards of living, this country offers a number of opportunities for legal migration. However, the process of obtaining a residence permit in Slovenia has its own legal features and requirements that should be familiarized with in advance.
Slovenian legislation defines several main grounds for granting a temporary or permanent residence permit to foreigners:
1. Employment. To obtain a permit, you must have an employment contract or written confirmation of employment from a Slovenian employer.
2. Implementation of entrepreneurial activity. This requires a business plan, sufficient investment and company registration in accordance with Slovenian requirements.
3. Studying in higher educational institutions of the country. Confirmation is a certificate of enrollment at an accredited higher education institution.
4. Family reunification with close relatives (husband/wife, minor children, parents) who are already citizens of Slovenia or have permanent residence.
5. Participation in the state Program for attracting foreign investments through the purchase of real estate or the creation of jobs.
The procedure for obtaining a residence permit begins with the submission of a corresponding petition to the Office for Administrative Internal Affairs (Upravne vrnodné zavede) at the future place of residence. Necessary documents:
- Completed questionnaire of the established sample
- Foreign passport, valid for at least 3 months
- Documents confirming the purpose of stay (contract, invitation, certificate of admission to a university)
- Certificate of criminal record
- Confirmation of residence in Slovenia
- Evidence of financial capacity for residence
- Medical insurance
After submitting the documents, their thorough verification by the migration control authorities begins, which can last 1-3 months. In case of a positive decision, the applicant is issued a certificate of temporary residence permit for up to 1 year with the possibility of further extension. The registration fee is about 100-200 euros, depending on the reason.
In order to obtain a permanent residence permit, it is necessary to legally stay in Slovenia on the basis of temporary permits for at least 5 years, to meet all the requirements, and in the future to have legal sources of financial support in the country.
It is worth noting the simplified procedure for Ukrainians who arrived in Slovenia after February 24, 2022 due to Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. For them, the Temporary Protection program has been introduced, which provides for an easier procedure for issuing permit documents and additional social guarantees.
Violation of Slovenian legislation, providing unreliable data when submitting documents, lack of stable sources of livelihood may be the reasons for cancellation of a residence permit.
In general, the process of obtaining the right to reside in Slovenia is quite formalized and requires careful preparation of all necessary documents in accordance with EU migration requirements. It is important to meet deadlines and renew permits in a timely manner. Contacting professional law firms and consultants can greatly facilitate the passage of all stages and speed up the legalization procedure. Having received a residence permit, Ukrainians will be able to legally and comfortably live in one of the most developed countries of the European Union.
