Registration of residence permit in EU countries. Sweden, as one of the most economically developed and stable countries in Europe, is becoming an attractive destination for the migration of Ukrainians. However, the process of obtaining a residence permit in this Northern European country has its own legal nuances and requirements that should be familiarized with in advance.
Swedish legislation provides several main grounds for issuing a temporary or permanent residence permit to foreigners:
1. Employment. A necessary condition is the presence of an employment contract or written confirmation of employment from a Swedish employer for a specific profession that belongs to the approved professional qualifications.
2. Doing business in Sweden. This requires a business plan, sufficient investment funds and company registration in accordance with the requirements.
3. Studying at a higher educational institution in Sweden with a certificate of enrollment and confirmation of financial support.
4. Family reunification with close relatives (spouses, minor children, parents) who are Swedish citizens or already have a residence permit.
5. Obtaining refugee status or additional protection for persons who have suffered persecution in their country of origin.
The process of obtaining a permit begins with the submission of an application to the Migration Agency of Sweden (Migrationsverket). The package of necessary documents includes:
- A completed questionnaire of the prescribed format
- Foreign passport valid for at least 3 months
- Evidence confirming the reason for residence (contract, invitation from the employer, confirmation of enrollment in a university, etc.)
- Certificate of criminal record
- Confirmation of residence in Sweden
- Evidence of financial capacity for maintenance
- Medical insurance
After submitting the documents, the procedure of their thorough verification begins, which can last from 2 to 6 months. In the case of a positive decision, the applicant will be issued a temporary residence permit for a period of 1 to 2 years, depending on the reason. The estimated cost of registration is SEK 1,000-2,000.
In order to obtain a permanent residence permit, it is necessary to legally reside in Sweden on the basis of temporary permits for at least 5 years, as well as continue to meet all requirements and have stable sources of income.
It is worth noting the simplified procedure for Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Sweden after February 24, 2022 due to military operations in Ukraine. In their case, the regime of temporary protection applies, which facilitates the preparation of documents and provides for additional social support.
Violation of the national legislation of Sweden, provision of unreliable data when submitting documents, loss of sources of financial support, etc. can be grounds for cancellation of a residence permit.
