Registration of residence permit in EU countries. Hungary, as a country neighboring Ukraine and a member of the European Union, is becoming more and more attractive for Ukrainian citizens who want to change their place of residence. However, the process of obtaining a residence permit in this country is governed by clear legal norms and requirements, which should be familiarized with in advance.
Hungarian legislation provides several main grounds for granting temporary or permanent residence permits to foreigners:
1. Employment. For this, it is necessary to have an employment contract or a written confirmation of employment from a Hungarian employer.
2. Doing business in Hungary. It is necessary to provide a business plan, proof of investment and register the company according to national requirements.
3. Studying in the country's higher educational institutions with a certificate of enrollment.
4. Family reunification with close relatives who are already citizens of Hungary or have a permanent residence permit (spouses, minor children, parents).
5. Participation in the state Program for attracting investments by purchasing real estate, placing deposits in banks, etc.
The procedure for obtaining a residence permit begins with the submission of a corresponding petition to the Office of Immigration and Asylum (Bevándorlási és Menekültügyi Hivatal). The following documents must be submitted:
- A completed questionnaire of the prescribed format
- A foreign passport with a validity period of at least 3 months
- Documents confirming the reason for stay (contract, invitation to work, certificate of enrollment at a university)
- Certificate of criminal record
- Confirmation of residence in Hungary
- Evidence of financial support for the period of residence
- Medical insurance
- Receipt for the payment of the administrative fee
After submitting a package of documents, their detailed review takes place within 60-90 days. In case of a positive decision, the applicant receives a certificate of temporary residence for a period of up to 1 year with the possibility of further extension. The estimated cost of registration is 150-300 euros.
In order to obtain a permanent residence permit, it is necessary to live in Hungary continuously and legally for at least 5 years, have stable sources of income and comply with other requirements.
Special mention should be made of the favorable regime for citizens of Ukraine who arrived in Hungary after February 24, 2022 as a result of the military aggression of the Russian Federation. The Temporary Protection program is in effect for them, which greatly facilitates the legalization procedure and provides additional social guarantees.
Violation of Hungarian legislation, provision of unreliable information during the registration of documents, lack of legal sources of support, etc., may be grounds for cancellation of a residence permit.
In general, the process of obtaining the right to reside in Hungary is formalized and requires careful preparation of all necessary documents, collected in accordance with current EU migration rules and national legislation. It is important to adhere to the validity period of the permits and submit a request for an extension in a timely manner. The involvement of professional legal companies specializing in migration issues can greatly facilitate and speed up the entire process of legalization of stay in Hungary. Provided all requirements are met, Ukrainians will be able to comfortably and safely live and work in a developed EU member state.
