Ukraine reported to the European Commission on reforms: Prospects and Challenges
On 24 April 2024, the Government Office for the Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine sent to the European Commission the first Report of Ukraine on the implementation of the recommendations identified in the Report on Ukraine's Progress under the EU Enlargement Package for 2023. Law on International Territorial Cooperation: a key step in reforms
The 1,600-page report covers the period from June 15, 2023 to March 31, 2024, and contains information on decisions, laws adopted by Ukraine, as well as updates on 33 negotiating sections, political and economic criteria. Particular attention was paid to the anti-corruption component and a new assessment methodology was used.
One of the key steps in implementing reforms is the adoption of the law on international territorial cooperation of Ukraine, which took place during the consideration of the report. It should be noted that the EU Enlargement Package is a strategic document that defines the directions of the EU enlargement policy and includes an assessment of the progress of candidate countries. The first Ukraine Progress Report, published on November 8, 2023, became the basis for further actions and the development of specific activities.
It is expected that Ukraine will submit another report to the European Commission at the beginning of September, which will include an update for the period March–August 2024. This is an important stage in Ukraine’s interaction with the European Union and confirmation of the national commitment to reform and openness to the international community.
