The amounts of long-service pensions for military personnel in Ukraine are established in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On pension provision for persons discharged from military service and certain other persons" and other normative legal acts that regulate the procedure for awarding pensions. The amounts of pensions are determined depending on years of service, military rank, position, and the amount of the serviceman's financial support.
Basic provisions regarding pensions for years of service
Calculation of the amount of the pension
1. Basic amount of pension: The amount of pension for years of service for military personnel is set as a percentage of the amount of financial support, which consists of the basic salary according to the military rank, position, allowances for years of service and other allowances.
2. Percentage calculation: For military personnel who have served for 20 years or more, the pension is set at the rate of 50% of the amount of monetary support. For each year of service over 20 years, the amount of the pension increases by 3% of the amount of monetary support, but not more than 70% of this amount.
Examples of calculations
20 years of service: The pension is 50% of the amount of financial support.
25 years of service: The pension is 65% of the amount of financial support (50% + 3% for each year over 20 years).
Preferential categories
1. For military personnel who served in particularly dangerous conditions, the amount of the pension may be increased, and additional benefits may be established when calculating years of service.
Maximum amount of pension
1.The maximum amount of pension for years of service cannot exceed 70% of the amount of monetary support.
Examples of specific calculations
For a more accurate calculation, it is necessary to know the specific amounts of salaries and allowances that the serviceman received during his service. For example, if the total financial support of a military serviceman is 20,000 hryvnias, and he has 25 years of service:
Basic pension amount = 20,000 * 65% = 13,000 hryvnias.

Allowance for performance of duties in extreme conditions. The maximum amount of pension for military servicemen, calculated in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On pension provision of persons released from military service and certain other persons", should not exceed 70% of the corresponding amounts of monetary provision, regardless of the number of years of service. This limitation is applied to ensure control of pension costs and to maintain fair conditions for all categories of servicemen.
Recalculation of pensions for military personnel in Ukraine is carried out in accordance with changes in the amount of monetary support or changes in legislation. The main provisions and procedures of recalculation are defined in the Law of Ukraine "On pension provision of persons released from military service and certain other persons". The recalculation can be carried out automatically or on the basis of individual applications, and takes into account the new amounts of salaries and allowances from which the pension is calculated.
