Defending independence: The Supreme Council of Justice of Ukraine in the fight against interference with justice
From January to March 2024, the Supreme Council of Justice (SCJ) actively responded to reports of interference in the professional activities of judges that violate guarantees of their independence and undermine the authority of justice. The press service of the Supreme Administrative Court reported that during this period 59 reports were received, which were considered in the context of the general struggle for an honest and independent judiciary. The Supreme Council of Justice, as a constitutional body, is one of the most important institutions of the judicial system. Her permanent projected work has a positive effect on the state of justice in the state.
Response to intervention
VRP took decisive measures in response to the revealed facts of interference in the activities of judges. In particular, after careful consideration of 37 reports of judges, 20 decisions were made to take response measures. These measures include appeals to the prosecutor's office and law enforcement agencies with a request to investigate crimes, as well as filing petitions to prosecute persons guilty of violations.
Protection of independence of judges
One of the main tasks of the VRP is to protect the independence of judges and the authority of justice. After considering 16 reports, the Supreme Court of Justice made 8 decisions approving the conclusions of council members about the lack of grounds for taking measures to ensure the independence of judges and the authority of justice. This shows that the VRP cares not only about the detection of violations, but also about objectivity in the consideration of cases.Strengthening the legal system

The receipt of such a large number of reports of interference indicates an increased level of awareness among citizens of the importance of the independence of judges and justice in general. Continuation of the work of the Prosecutor General's Office in the direction of preventing and stopping such violations will contribute to increasing trust in the judicial system and strengthening the rule of law in Ukraine.

The activities of the High Council of Justice in the period from January to March 2024 indicate a serious approach to the performance of its functions in the field of ensuring the independence of judges and the authority of justice. Its actions are aimed at strengthening the legal system and restoring citizens' trust in the judiciary.
