Ukraine adopted a law on mandatory civil liability insurance for car owners
Today, May 21, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law on mandatory civil liability insurance of owners of land vehicles (No. 8300), which aims to improve the insurance system and bring it closer to European standards.
One of the key provisions of the new law includes the increase of insurance sums to a level that meets European standards. It is planned that the maximum amount of payment for damage to life and health will be 32 million hryvnias, and for damage to property - 16 million hryvnias. This will make the insurance system more efficient and fair.
The second important provision is the introduction of direct settlement of all cases of traffic accidents where only the vehicle is damaged. This will allow policyholders to apply for insurance benefits directly to their insurer, avoiding complicated procedures and time costs.
Key provisions of the new law: growth of insurance sums and their compliance with European standards.
The third important innovation is the rapid implementation of guarantee payments to injured persons for bankrupt insurers before the implementation of this law. This will contribute to more effective protection of policyholders' rights and ensure greater compliance with the terms of insurance coverage.
In addition, the law provides for the expansion of the application of the "Europrotocol" - this is the procedure for filing an application for insurance compensation in the event of a road accident without the involvement of the police. This will simplify and speed up the process of issuing an insurance payment for the parties to the conflict. The law also harmonizes Ukrainian legislation with the current provisions of the European Directive, in particular, regarding the increase in the amount of payments for damage to life and health, as well as for damage to the property of injured persons.
Adoption of this law is defined as a step towards further modernization of the insurance system of Ukraine and bringing it closer to the highest international standards. It will help increase the level of protection of citizens in the event of road accidents and make the insurance system more transparent and accessible to all citizens.
The law on compulsory civil liability insurance of owners of land vehicles is an important step forward in the development of the insurance system of Ukraine. Its adoption indicates the country's rapid approach to European standards and reflects the government's desire to improve the insurance market, ensure greater safety for road users, and increase citizens' trust in insurance companies.
