Protection from financial fraudsters
Financial fraud is a global problem and can happen in any country, including Ukraine. The population of Ukraine may encounter various types of financial fraud, such as Internet scams, suspicious investment schemes, counterfeiting of payment cards, etc.
Ukraine takes various measures to combat financial fraudsters, such as improving legislation, strengthening control over financial transactions, conducting information and educational campaigns and cooperation with international partners.
However, even with all these measures, it is important that citizens themselves be attentive and careful, avoid situations that may appear suspicious or unreliable and, in case of doubt, seek help from law enforcement or specialized services.
It is important to protect against financial fraud in Ukraine at several levels:
Information literacy:
Education and dissemination of information about common fraud schemes, deception methods and pitfalls of financial transactions helps people to recognize potentially dangerous situations.
Financial literacy:
Learning the basics of personal financial security, including how to save and invest money, will also help you avoid fraud. Check your bank and credit accounts frequently to spot any suspicious transactions as soon as possible. Set up transaction alerts on your accounts so you'll be notified immediately of any activity.
Attentiveness:
Be attentive and vigilant when carrying out financial transactions, especially on the Internet.Check the authenticity of websites, avoid providing personal information and credit data on questionable resources. Never provide personal information such as bank account numbers, passwords, PINs, or Social Security numbers via email, phone, or text.
Be careful when receiving calls or messages from purported financial institutions. Always verify the authenticity of such requests.
Using secure passwords:
Use a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. Avoid obvious passwords such as dates of birth or names.
Change passwords for important accounts regularly.
Common types of financial fraud:
Scammers send emails or messages that look like official messages from banks or other financial institutions in order to obtain your personal information.
Fraudsters install special devices on ATMs or payment terminals to read data from magnetic strips of cards.
Fraudsters use psychological manipulation to obtain confidential information or force them to perform certain actions.
Fraudsters offer "profitable" investments with promises of high returns that are actually bogus schemes.
Actions in case of suspected fraud
If you discover suspicious transactions or loss of personal data, notify your bank or financial institution immediately.
If you are a victim of financial fraud, file a report with law enforcement.Change the passwords to all your accounts, especially your bank and financial accounts.
Check your credit report regularly for unauthorized activity.
Protection against financial fraudsters requires constant attention and caution. By following these recommendations, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of fraud.
