The appointment of a disability pension in Ukraine is regulated by relevant laws and regulations. The appointment process includes several stages and requires the submission of certain documents.

1. Basic steps for awarding a disability pension.
   Medical examination and determination of disability group:
   • In order to receive a pension, it is necessary to undergo a medical examination by the medical and social expert commission (MSEK), which will determine the degree of loss of working capacity and establish the disability group.
   Collection of necessary documents:
   • Passport of a citizen of Ukraine or other identity document.
   • Identification code (taxpayer identification number).
   • Documents confirming work experience (work book, certificates from the place of work, etc.).
   • Medical documents (conclusion of MSEK on establishment of disability).
   • Application for disability pension.
   Submission of documents to the Pension Fund of Ukraine:
   • Collected documents must be submitted to the territorial office of the Pension Fund of Ukraine at the place of residence. Documents can be submitted in person or through an authorized representative.
   Consideration of application and appointment of pension:
   • The pension fund considers the application and makes a decision on awarding a disability pension. The term of consideration of the application is usually 10 days from the moment of submission of all necessary documents.
   Receiving a pension:
   • Once a decision has been made to grant a pension, the pension can be received into a bank account or through a post office, depending on the chosen method.
   
   Disability groups.
   
   • The first group is the most difficult, it is prescribed in case of significant loss of working capacity.
   • Second group – significant loss of working capacity, but less severe than in the first group.
   • The third group is the least severe, partial disability.
   
   Additional aspects.
   
   • Work experience: In order to receive a disability pension, it is important to have a certain insurance experience, which depends on the person's age at the time of disability.
   • Social benefits: Persons with disabilities may be entitled to additional social benefits and assistance.

The minimum amount of disability pension payments in Ukraine depends on several factors, including the disability group and the status of the person (general case, war invalid, child with a disability, etc.). The main provisions regarding the minimum amounts of disability pensions are determined by the legislation of Ukraine, in particular the Law of Ukraine "On Mandatory State Pension Insurance" and other normative acts.

   The first group of disabilities:
   • The minimum amount of the pension cannot be lower than the living wage for persons who have lost their ability to work (as of 2024, the living wage is set by the government and is subject to annual review).
   The second group of disabilities:
   • The minimum amount of the pension is also set at a level not lower than the living wage for persons who have lost their ability to work.
   The third group of disabilities:
   • The minimum amount of pension for this group may be lower, but it should also not be less than a certain percentage of the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost working capacity.
   
   Minimum amounts of pensions for other categories.
   
   Disabled people of war:
   • The minimum amount of pension for war invalids can be much higher and depends on the disability group.
   Children with disabilities:
   • The minimum amount of pension for children with disabilities also depends on the age and condition of the child.
   
   Current data for 2024.
   
   The living wage for persons who have lost working capacity is established every year. As of 2024, the subsistence minimum for this category is UAH 2,093 (according to the Law of Ukraine on the State Budget for 2024).
   • First group of disability: Minimum pension not lower than UAH 2,093.
   • The second group of disabilities: Minimum pension not lower than UAH 2,093.
   • Third disability group: The minimum pension may be lower, but not less than a certain percentage of UAH 2,093.
   
   Important notes.
   
   • The size of the pension may be increased due to additional allowances and increases, which may depend on length of service, availability of additional benefits and other factors.
   • Pensions can be indexed according to inflation processes and government decisions.
