Registration of residence permit in EU countries. Romania, as a country neighboring Ukraine and a member of the European Union, has become an attractive destination for many Ukrainians to move to in recent years. The process of obtaining a residence permit in this country has its own legal nuances and requirements, which it is important to familiarize yourself with in advance.
Romanian legislation provides several grounds for granting foreigners the right to temporary or permanent residence:
1. Employment. This option requires an employment contract or written confirmation of employment from a Romanian employer.
2. Implementation of entrepreneurial activity on the territory of Romania, confirmed by relevant documents and a business plan.
3. Studying at higher educational institutions in Romania with a certificate of enrollment.
4. Family reunification - a permit for close relatives (husband/wife, minor children, parents) who are citizens of Romania or already have a permanent residence permit.
5. Participation in the Investment Program by purchasing real estate, opening a business with job creation, etc.
To obtain a residence permit in Romania, it is necessary to submit a petition to the General Inspectorate for Immigration (Inspectoratul General pentru Imigrari) at the place of future residence. The package of documents includes:
- A completed questionnaire of the established model;
- Foreign passport valid for at least 6 months;
- Documents confirming the purpose (employment contract, invitation to work, certificate of enrollment in an educational institution);
- Certificate of criminal record;
- Confirmation of residence in Romania;
- Evidence of sufficient financial support;
- Medical insurance.
After the documents are submitted, they are thoroughly checked by the relevant authorities, which can last up to 60 days. Based on the results of the review, the applicant is issued a certificate of temporary residence for a period of 1 to 5 years, depending on the reason. The registration fee is approximately 120-200 euros.
In order to obtain a permanent residence permit, you must live in Romania for at least 5 years on legal grounds and continue to meet all the requirements.
It is worth noting the special favorable regime for citizens of Ukraine who arrived in Romania after February 24, 2022 due to the military actions of Russia. A temporary protection program is in effect for them, which simplifies the legalization procedure and ensures access to social services.
Grounds for cancellation of a residence permit in Romania are: violation of national legislation, presence of a criminal record, provision of inaccurate information during the registration of documents, lack of a legal source of income.
The process of obtaining a residence permit in Romania is quite formalized in accordance with the requirements of the EU migration policy. Therefore, it is important to comply with all the necessary conditions and properly prepare all the necessary documents.
Seeking help from lawyers and migration firms can greatly facilitate this process, help avoid mistakes and ensure that all stages of legalization of stay in the country go smoothly. Compliance with the established rules will allow Ukrainians to comfortably live and work in Romania as members of the European Union.
